Young GroupMapping:

''The first month of the Young GroupMappers''

Find out how the Young GroupMappers experienced their first month at GroupMapping and what their fresh perspective can mean for your organisation.

Noor Verbeet

Now that my first month as a YGM'er is over, it seems like a good time to take stock. How much I have already learnt in these first weeks! Our start at GroupMapping felt like a warm bath: all colleagues were ready to welcome us with open arms. In an intensive familiarisation process, we were introduced to GroupMapping's story and way of working. We learned about the power of experience design and were given space for personal development during a valuable training on resilience.

What made this period extra fun was the bond with the other YGMs. It clicked from day one: learning together, helping each other and celebrating the first successes.
After theory, it was time for practice. During projects such as Portaal's annual planning day and SVB's leadership day, I saw up close what the GroupMapping working method means for organisations. The energy created when people work together in co-creation is contagious!
I look forward to developing further - professionally and personally - and using my fresh eyes, analytical skills and creativity to help organisations move forward.

The transition from the college benches to real work life is a big one, but at GroupMapping I felt at home from day one. The atmosphere was warm, open and genuinely enthusiastic. The first weeks were all about getting to know the organisation, the culture and the practice. What surprised me most was that we got to apply the theory directly. By joining sessions and playing an active role, we saw how groups grow and achieve results together.

Together with Noor, Pumah and Marijs, we form a close-knit YGM team. We share our successes and challenges, encourage each other and learn from each other. That helps us grow tremendously. I am ready for what is to come and look forward to creating connection within organisations that brings real change!

My first month at GroupMapping has flown by. I look back on the past weeks with a broad smile. I was warmly welcomed by my new colleagues and built a strong bond with the other YGM'ers in a short time. It is exciting to trade the study books for a ‘real’ job, but it helps enormously to start together with people who are in the same boat. During the first weeks, we dove deep into GroupMapping's methods and culture: from experience design to workshop design. Then we were allowed to immediately apply everything in practice, including at Portaal. That was intensive, but above all incredibly inspiring!

The best moment? The GroupMapping magic come to life. The energy created when people work together using creative forms of work shows how much impact our work has. Besides the content, there is a lot of focus on personal growth. Our first training at the School of Life on resilience immediately got me thinking. I look back on a super instructive and inspiring first month at GroupMapping and cannot wait to develop further both professionally and personally. I am looking forward to getting started and working together, in co-creation, to get organisations moving.

“So, what's it like? Are you enjoying yourself?” I got that question many times over the past 30 days. My short answer is simple: “Yes!” But the long version is of course more fun. After a month of training, inspiring stories and joining sessions, I can say that the work at GroupMapping is much more than solving puzzles. Instead, it is about finding the hidden puzzle pieces which everyone brings, so that together we complete the whole thing. We are immediately thrown into the deep end, but fortunately with swimming straps. The learning curve is steep, the days fly by, and I discover not only how GroupMapping works, but also a lot about myself.

What I take away most of all: there are no stupid questions, only curiosity that takes us forward. And that fits perfectly with the way we work. With all this new knowledge and the realisation that there is also an important piece of the puzzle in ourselves, I look forward to everything that is yet to come.
